IntroductionAt the moment 7linux can be installed from a small base iso which include kernel, initng and a build environment. The iso is around 110mb and can be found on the ftp.
ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/7linux/Should you want a working desktop system (which most will), you should download the 7desk folder from ftp, found here

ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/7linux/7v6/7desk/You might not need every package in there but I would advise that you get them all if you can. Keep the local copy of this directory safe, either on a seperate partition to the one you want to install 7linux on or a CD or other removable media. You will need this after the base install.
Base InstallThe install is very straight forward as it's just a case of burning the iso and rebooting your machine with it in a cdrom drive. You probably know the drill.
After reboot you will presented with an isolinux boot screen. Just press enter to continue. The bootup procedure will get to a point where it is "Populating /dev with device nodes." This can take some time, so don't worry if your system appears to have stopped, just have patience.
Once initial bootup has finished you will see a colourful ascii representation of the 7linux logo. Press enter to continue to the installer menu.
The installer is all very self-explanatory and includes cfdisk for partitioning the hard drive should this be required. When prompted to install lilo it is most likely you should, unless you know what you are doing. Installation should be fairly fast (depending on machine). You can now login as
root password
7linux.
To setup your system you should now run 7admin by entering the following at the console:
7adminThere are options for setting up keyboard, networking, Xserver and users. You should do all of these except for setting up X as there is no X installed yet. Once finished you will be returned to the console. You should now reboot the machine to activate networking or just continue with the next step.
Desktop InstallNow you need to navigate to location you stored the 7desk folder from ftp. Enter the directory, su to root and run the following command:
7pkg -i *This will install all the packages in that folder. Once complete you can reboot and login. You should be presented with a desktop environment including most frequently used apps.
